A suspect who is accused of shoplifting alcohol and other items from a Glenbrook Basin grocery store Monday was arrested after attempting to retrieve the items he dropped while being chased by an employee. Grass Valley Police Captain Rex Marks says police responded to a 911 call from the store, and a search uncovered a backpack belonging to 39 year old Christopher Douglas Jenkins. Jenkins was arrested the next day when he returned to the area and was seen rummaging through some bushes in the area where he dropped his backpack .

Captain Marks says Jenkins is has been convicted 5 times for similar offenses. Marks says Jenkins was under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of hypodermic needles when he was taken into custody , he also faces a charge of resisting arrest.
