Robbers Fire Suspect Released From Jail

The man accused of starting last summer’s Robbers Fire in Placer County is out of jail, and he could remain free for good. Bryon Mason was released last month after a judge ruled there was insufficient evidence to try him on felony arson charges. In a preliminary hearing, the judge ruled that the CalFire investigating officer gave ‘less than accurate’ testimony. The District Attorney’s office could file lesser charges, but did not do so in a scheduled court appearance Tuesday. The Robbers Fire burned over 25-hundred acres between Foresthill and Colfax in July of last year.
