Last year the arts community lost a dear friend with the passing of Roberta Frank in November. She was a pianist, singer, and actor who was involved in many local organizations incluidng In concert Sierra, Sierra Master Chorale, Music in the Mountains and Sierra Stages. Ken Getz, Musical Director for Sierra Stages says he first met Roberta Frank in 2006 when they both were playing piano for rehearsals of Bye Bye Birdie at the Center for the Arts and he realized what a talented musician she was.
To honor Roberta’s memory, Sierra Stages is establishing the Roberta Frank Musical Theater Scholarship of $1,000 to be awarded annually to a deserving High School student.
Getz says they are hoping to see auditions from a number of worthy high school students.
Also, on March 11th at 7 pm at Nevada Theater, Sierra Stages will present a special event with many of Roberta’s friends performing songs or other acts that they like to think Roberta would have enjoyed.
Getz says it will be a fun evening of fundraising and commemorating a dear friend.
