For the first time in 27 years, the Rough and Ready Fire Department has a new chief. Don Gannon has retired from the all-volunteer department. One of Gannon’s biggest accomplishments in his tenure was the new fire station, which opened early last year. Gannon says they saved up almost a million dollars over 15 years…
The station opened in January of 2012. Gannon says it was a fluke that he became a firefighter in the first place, joining the department in 1986…

Gannon makes a living as a contractor, and says he’ll keep working for a couple more years, and will also spend time fishing. His last day was yesterday, and there was a transition ceremony on Friday.
