Nevada County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating an incident that occurred in Rough and Ready where a man was shot in the leg.

Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Smethers says deputies and Grass Valley Police responded to the hospital and took a statement from the victim. They determined the incident actually occurred in county jurisdiction and the Sheriff’s office took over the investigation.

A search warrant was served Monday morning at the property which is a 10 acre parcel in the 10-thousand block of La Sierra Drive. Lt. Smethers says there were signs that Marijuana had been cultivated on the property, and several pieces of evidence were secured regarding the case.

Lt. Smethers says the investigation is still ongoing and so far a suspect in the shooting has not been identified.
