We’re in a spin, that old traffic circle magic. My apologies to Johnny Mercer for butchering his lyrics.
The traffic circle/round-about on Idaho-Maryland and East Main is a never ending source of mirth and mystery. The etiquette of who goes when and in which lane they should drive seems to have stumped many drivers in our fair community.
My mirth comes from the drivers that are Eastbound on Idaho-Maryland Road who seek to bypass the mystery by using Scandling Avenue. I think some of these drivers are actually trying to speed up their drive. I believe that many of these drivers think the round about will slow them down as they transition from I/M road to East Main. It’s been my totally unscientific observation that they are going about it all wrong if that’s their desire. Most of the time I find a car that was in front of me on I/M (then darting off onto Scandling) now waiting for me to clear the intersection of East Main and Scandling putting them now behind me in traffic.
My advise – embrace the traffic circle/round-about. It’s a little different way of dealing with traffic, but I am seeing more and more of them cropping up in all size cities. Besides, it’s not the first time city government has had us chasing in circles . . . . . . . .
