Nevada County Public Works Department has just finished a project to make walking to school safer for children from Lake of the Pines. Public Works Director Steve Castleberry says the new lighted crosswalk was done at the request of residents of Lake of the Pines.

The county was able to secure an Air quality Grant to pay for the flashing light crosswalk that located between the Lake of the Pines Entrance and Magnolia School.

Rather than a single flashing light, Castleberry says it’s a double alternating flashing light which has prooven more effective in slowing traffic down. The Lighted crosswalk is in place now and will get it’s first test on Thursday August 15th the first day of school at Magnolia.
