Sammie’s Friends Animal Shelter is hosting the Happy Tails Dance Party on Saturday at the Grass Valley Elks Lodge to raise money. Sammie’s Founder Cheryl Wicks says that, since the shelter takes in about 2000 animals a year, they need to have creative and fun ways to raise money for their care.
Wicks says she’s very excited about the party, which will feature a Mexican food buffet, live bands, a silent auction, and a raffle.
Since Sammie’s Friends took over the Nevada County Animal Shelter, they’ve turned it into a no-kill shelter. Wicks says Sammie’s also hosts a number of support programs in the community to help people care for their pets’ medical needs. The entire Sammie’s program is driven by volunteers.
There will be a no host bar sponsored by the Elks. The Grass Valley Elks Lodge also has a spring-loaded dance floor, a feature that is becoming increasingly rare in the US. You can get tickets online or in person at the shelter near the McCourtney Road Transfer Station, at the thrift store on East Main Street in Grass Valley, or at the door. Dinner for the event will have to be paid for with cash only. For more information, go to Sammie’s website.
