Scotts Flat Spillway Gate Closure Meeting Tonight

When the Nevada Irrigation District installed fencing and closed the gate across the top of, and along the edge of, the Scotts Flat Dam Spillway, in August, a number of residents complained about a lack of input. That includes Nevada City’s mayor. And now the district is holding a public workshop this evening, to look at options. NID Deputy General Manager Gregg Jones says the action was taken to curtail a growing problem regarding public behavior, which, the district says, will ensure the safety of dam infrastructure…

Jones says patrols of the spillway are not financially feasible. As for what options are possible, he declined to be specific, including whether it was possible to reopen the gate at least during part of the day…

The meeting begins at 6 this evening at NID’s main business center, at 1036 West Main Street in Grass Valley.
