Search For New Chief to Start Next Week

The search for a new Chief for Nevada County Consolidated Fire District will begin next week at the regularly scheduled Board meeting November 21st.   After just 3 months on the job present Chief Adolf Zubia turned in his resignation effective at the end of this month.  He will be returning to Las Cruces New Mexico where his family is located.   Board Chair Warren Knox says they used a
professional head hunter and a 10-member citizen panel  in choosing Zubia, which he thought was a good process .*

The other big issue facing Nevada County Consolidated is providing a continued quality level of service  while expenses,  particularly the PERS retirement funding formulas,  are increasing.  *

The Consolidated Board is currently in Negotiations for a new contract with the Firefighers Union.  Voters in 2012 approved a $52 per year special tax to support Consolidated Fire District. It contains a provision for a 3% increase per year. The Board voted to waive the increase for this fiscal year, but Knox says that will be on the table for future consideration. The tax has been generating about $850-thousand dollars a year for the district.   The total Nevada County Consolidated Fire District budget this year is 5 point 2 million dollars.
