Search Suspended For Apparent Drowning Victim

Another attempt has been made to find a San Francisco man who is suspected to have drowned in the South Yuba River earlier this month. This time, Nevada County Sheriff’s Sergeant Mike Sullivan says they were assisted by a swift water dive team from Placer County. 37-year-old Ricardo Alvarez was last seen going over a waterfall, about a mile north of the Highway 49 Bridge, on the evening of Saturday, August 19th. It was the first attempt to try to find the man in this area. But Sullivan says it’s still not safe and the search has been suspended, unless they get new and concrete information. He says the latest effort follows numerous attempts, in other parts of the river, by divers from Nevada County’s Search and Rescue team, along with an extensive ground search…

Sullivan says although the river is now considered safe enough, compared to earlier this season, swimmers should still scout the conditions carefully before going in.
