This Sunday the people of Rough and Ready will celebrate the 1850 secession of Rough and Ready from the Union. Rough and Ready Chamber Board member Art Gross says it all got started when some townsfolk decided they were not getting proper attention from the Union and voted to secede.
The town folk of Rough and Ready declared their independence on April 14th…and things went pretty smoothly until just before the 4th of July when the town barkeeper tried to buy some liquor for the celebration.

Faced with the possibility of having to celebrate the 4th of July without libation, the townspeople of Rough and Ready decided to rejoin the union.
This Sunday, June 30 will mark the 58th annual modern celebration of the secession of Rough and Ready from the Union and the three month life of the Great Republic of Rough and Ready. All proceeds benefit non-profit Rough and Ready organizations.
