Possible E. coli Source Lake Wildwood

It’s now been about 3 and a half months since Lake Wildwood beaches were closed because of an E. coli outbreak that has caused 18 illnesses. County officials continue to remind residents to not use the beaches, as the investigation continues. And even though swimming season is pretty much over, they’ve now expanded the no-swim advisory to any recreational activity in the water. And now Environmental Health Director Amy Irani says test results also show that the original strain carries genetic markers from geese near Meadow Park…

Meanwhile, Irani says more recent test results indicate that water samples from another part of the lake, near where Lake Wildwood Creek feeds into it, have been positive for a new, but unrelated, E. coli strain that can also cause serious illness…

Irani says there’s no time frame for when the investigation will be completed, but the goal is to reopen the lake by next spring, or when water recreation season begins.
