Senator Says Bill Is a Good Start

A bill to address the state’s overcrowded prisons is now in the hands of the governor.  Republican Senator Jim Nielsen says the bill is a first step, but it won’t solve the problem.

The senator says that deficiencies of AB 109 fail to protect the safety of our citizens and ensure justice.

The Legislature passed Senate Bill 105 yesterday, which first asks the Three Judge Panel for an extension to reduce the prison population.  If the court denies an extension, the bill authorizes 315-million dollars for additional prison space.
