The Grass Valley City Council has approved a loan to Sergio’s Restaurant, which will allow them to move to a bigger location on Mill Street. Councilwoman Lisa Swarthout drew the short straw, and voted with Jan Arbuckle and Jason Fouyer to unanimously approve the 210-thousand dollar revolving loan. The city gets the money for the revolving loan through a state block grant, and when the money is repaid, the cash becomes available for other loans. Sergio’s owner Sergio Martignago (mar-tin-YAH-go) says it’s a good program…
Creating seven full time positions is a condition of the loan. Sergio’s is moving from 154 Main Street to 109 Main Street. Martignago says diners will like the new location…
Three council members, including Swarthout, had to recuse themselves from the vote because they own or operate property within 500 feet of the business, but three votes were needed for a quorum, so straws were drawn to determine the third voter. Martignago says he hopes to open the new restaurant in August.
