Serious Accident on 174 Monday Evening

It appears alcohol may have been involved in a rollover collision on Highway 174 near Rattlesnake Rd Monday evening. CHP Public Information officer Marc Morrison said a Ford Explorer heading towards Grass Valley lost control when the vehicle drifted off the side of the road. The driver, Vaughan Martindale, over-corrected and the Explorer spun back onto the highway.

An unidentifed good samaritan witnessed the accident and went to the aid of the driver in the burning Explorer.

The driver and passenger in the Outback recieved injuries including bruises, bumps, and other complaints of pains. Vaughan Martindale received life threatening head injuries. All parties were flown to Sutter Roseville Hopital for treatment. The accident remains under investigation.
