Several Memorial Day Events Lined Up For Monday

As has become tradition in Nevada County, local veterans groups have lined up several events on Monday to honor those who served our and died in the line of duty. The day begins at 9am with a short ceremony at Nevada City’s Pioneer Park, hosted by the local chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars. That’s followed by a bicycle tour of memorial bridges, led by Connie Strawsert of the Nevada City Bike Shop. At 11am, is a longer ceremony at the Grass Valley Veterans Building. American Legion Frank Gallino Post 130 is hosting that event, and Retired U-S Coast Guard Commander and American Legion Post 130 member Claude Hessel says there will be several speakers and presentations…

Also veterans of Viet Nam and Iraq. The program will also include music, featuring Donna Matson singing the various service hymns, and others…

At 1pm, there will be walking tours of the memorial bridges, with docents at each plaque to honor local fallen heroes of the Viet Nam, Iraq, and Afghanistan wars.
