Several Memorial Day Events Today

There are a number of activities taking place in the Western Nevada County this Memorial Day. Today the American Legion Post 130 is remembering our veterans with a number of activities beginning with coffee and donuts at 10:30 at the Veteran’s Building in Grass Valley. Claude Hesell says the formal program begins at 11:00 AM and will feature two speakers from the Korean war era, a keynote speaker, a number of other presentations and three singers .*

While many people have forgotten the significance of Memorial Day, Norm Dodson says it is far more than just a day off and a picnic.*

The event organizers say that it was difficult to get veterans from the Korean War to speak at the event.*

The morning events will conclude with a Three Gun Salute and Taps followed by Amazing Grace. A barbeque put on by the Boy Scouts Troop 885 will be served and then guests are encouraged to participate tn the Bridge Tour to the plaques that have been placed in remembrance of Vietnam Veterans at each of the highway overpasses in Western Nevada County. Also in the afternoon from 2 to 4, Welcome Home Vets is hosting an open house reception to give information about the programs they offer to veterans and their families.  Welcome Home Vets is located in the Lola Montez House at 248 Mill Street in Grass Valley.
