A crackdown on so-called on-campus “sexting” is the goal of a bill introduced in the Assembly. And it has the qualified support of the principal of Bear River High School. The bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Ed Chau, would allow principals to suspend or expel students who share explicit pictures and recordings via electronic message. Bear River High Principal Amy Besler says she would want to be sure that the legislation deals with unsolicited, non-consensual sexting and that private off-campus activity would be excluded…
Besler says Bear River High has had only a small number of incidents. She says students have been disciplined, but not suspended or expelled…
Chau says the bill would more clearly spell out administrators’ authority and discretion.
