With winter officially here in about a month, the Nevada County chapter of United Way has begun their annual “Share the Warmth” collection drive. Executive Director Megan Timpany says this year the focus is on donations of new socks, gloves, and warm hats. She says they have at least 20 drop-off locations this year…

And Timpany says other businesses still have time to also set up a collection box. A survey they conducted recently shows that over 4500 households in the county are struggling to make ends meet, including working families…

To find out where the drop-off spots are, as well as other information, you can go to United Way’s website, or call 274-8111. Timpany says the collection drive will continue until around the middle of December, with the hope of full distribution of items being completed by the end of the year. She says United Way of Nevada County is currently focusing on helping with basic needs, such as food, emergency shelter, and access to health care.
