Nevada County Sheriff’s Deputies have won approval to issue and process Administrative Citations when enforcing the Medical Marijuana Cultivation Ordinance that was adopted in the county on May 8th of this year. Sheriff Keith Royal, in gaining the authorization from the County Board of Supervisors at their meeting this morning, acknowledged his officers have been busy responding to complaints with a number of contacts in the community. He says a number of those people have complied and many have asked for administrative hearings.

Sheriff Royal says his department has assigned two staff members who are working full time on a daily basis investigating marijuana complaints. The amount of the Administrative Citation will be based on the cost to the county in the course of enforcement action or remedial action against continuing violations including but not limited to permit fees, fines, late charges and interest. County supervisors voted 4 to 1 to adopt the amendment with Supervisor Terry Lamphier voting against adoption, saying he believed the county could issue citations under the county’s existing system.
