Sheriff Defends Position on Contact Visitations

Local attorneys say they do not have enough access to their clients at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says he was in court for six hours presenting evidence before Judge Anderson as to why he could not allow a contact visit with each and every attorney who wanted to speak with their client. The Sheriff says the increase in prisoners due to the state realignment and the reduction of staff because of budget cuts make those visits impossible.

The Sheriff says he has state law on his side and will appeal if the court rules against him. The Sheriff says he provides contact visits in special cases. The Sheriff says Judge Anderson took the entire case under submission and will give his verdict at a later date.
