Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom’s gun control initiative has now received official opposition from the California Sheriff’s Association. The proposal, for the November ballot, would require most people to pass background checks to buy ammunition, as well as only through licensed vendors reported to the Department of Justice. California already has some of the nation’s most restrictive firearms policies. The proposal would also grandfather in to current law a ban on high-capacity magazines.
