Sheriff Royal Supports DNA Evidence Bill

Another effort is being made in the legislature to give back law to enforcement more powers to collect DNA evidence for certain felony crimes reclassified recently as misdemeanors. The change took place after voters approved Proposition 47 in 2014. The first Assembly bill failed in 2015. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal supports it. Royal says the measure applies to people convicted, but not arrested, for such non-violent offenses as fraud, property crimes, and drug possession….

The bill would apply exclusively to crimes whose sentences were affected by Proposition 47. It would leave sentencing rules intact.
