Sheriff Applies for Grants for Boats and OHVs

Nevada County Sheriff’s Deputies use more than patrol cars to get to areas of the county where law enforcement or aid to citizens is needed.  They also often use boats! For over 35 years the sheriff’s office has participated in a grant program with the California Department of Boating and Waterways  for boating safety and enforcement.  This year the sheriff is applying for a grant that at maximum would provide  nearly 97 thousand  dollars in funding.

Officers patrol lakes including Englebright,  Scotts Flat, Donner, and  Bocca Reservoir.   The sheriff is also applying for  Off Highway Vehicle grant funding to also assist officers in getting to remote areas of the county and to assist in search and rescue.  The  grant applications go before the county Board of Supervisors   at their meeting today for approval.  Also today the Supervisors will be asked for Environmental Clearance for a signalized crosswalk project at the new Lake of the Pines Gate at the intersection of Sunset Ridge Drive and Magnolia Road.
