Sierra County Sheriff Down to 9 Deputies

Sierra County Sheriff John Evans has lost ten percent of his patrol force because of budget cuts. Sheriff Evans was told by the Sierra County Board of Supervisors he could not fill two vacant deputy positions. The Sheriff says in recent hearings he was told he can fill only one of the positions. The Sheriff says the cuts will affect the service to Verdi.

Sheriff Evans on Sierra Cuts

Sierra County is facing a half a million dollar shortfall in their budget for the next year. The Sheriff says the county is spreading out the cuts to all the departments. His patrol staff for the entire county will total nine Deputies. If an effort to keep the maximum number of Deputies on patrol the Sheriff also works on patrol to keep law enforcement available. He is hopeful no further cuts will be coming his way.
