Good news and bad news for those that hike the Independence Trail at South Yuba River State Park. First the bad news. State Parks area Superintendent Matt Green says a sinkhole has completely blocked the western entrance, at the Highway 49 trailhead…
Workers tried to patch it up, but the hole was even bigger the next day, at about six feet by six feet. The trail is closed now, but Green says the good news is they will be building a new bridge over the sinkhole…
Green says they’ll have to do some maneuvering, but there is room in their budget for the bridge…
The target date for re-opening is April 4.
