Sinkhole on HIghway 80 in Truckee May Slow Eastbound Traffic

A sinkhole in the median of Highway 80 at Donner Pass Rd in Truckee is causing traffic issues eastbound heading towards North Lake Tahoe and Reno. CALTRANS Information Officer, Gilbert Mohtes Chan, says the sinkhole opened up in the center median for an unknown reason around 12:40 AM Friday morning.

The number one lane, or fast lane, east bound is closed for about a quarter mile requiring vehicles to merge into the slow lane. Currently traffic is moving but it could back up as traffic increaes with Friday drivers heading to Reno or Lake Tahoe begin to move through the area. AsĀ  of 11:00 AM CALTRANS estimates the lane to be closed for at least several more hours.
