Slip Out Closes Highway 49 North of Nevada City

Caltrans advises motorists that Highway 49 is closed north of Nevada City from Newtown Road to Tyler Foote Road due to roadway damage. A portion of the southbound roadway just north of the Yuba River Bridge has slipped down into the canyon. Area residents are advised to use an alternate route.

Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone but only motorists with proof of residence south of the Yuba River Bridge will be allowed northbound through the closure at Newtown Road. Only motorists with proof of residence north of Reader Ranch Road will be allowed southbound through the closure at Tyler Foote Road.

Emergency work to stabilize the roadway is in progress and repair work is estimated to take up to 6 weeks. Weather and further damage to the roadway may affect construction times.
