It was a small vegetation fire thanks in large part to a helicopter that just happened to be in the area. The blaze started near South Yuba River State Park around 3:30 yesterday (Monday) afternoon, but CalFire Captain Nick Salas says 9-1-1 calls coming in reported the smoke somewhere near North San Juan…
Salas says it started as a vehicle or structure fire, but spread to the vegetation…
While local agencies were having difficulty finding the blaze, a helicopter out of Red Bluff was on its way back from the Alta area saw the smoke, and was able to dump water on it and dispatch ground crews to the area…
The fire was contained to about a quarter of an acre. The cause is not yet known.
