Smartsville Pioneer Day Saturday

By Ashlyn Rhodes

This Saturday is the 8th annual Smartsville and Timbuctoo Pioneer Day.  The historical festival helps raise money for the Smartsville Church Restoration Fund, a group dedicated to restoring the old Catholic church in Smartsville and turning it into a visitor center and museum.

Smith says there will also be local crafters and food and drink vendors at the free event, plus horse-drawn carriage rides, demonstrations, and a costume contest open to anyone who wants to dress up like a pioneer.  The festival, which is in downtown Smartsville, starts at 9 on Saturday and runs all day before closing down at 4.  Parking and entry is free.  For more information, call 743-0413 or go online.
