SNMH to Close Transitional Care Unit

Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital will be closing its 17 bed Transitional Care Unit effective February 1, 2013.    VP of Business Development and Marketing for Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, Debbie Plass says  changes in   Medicare  will no longer  cover the cost of providing that care in an acute care hospital facility.

Plass says in  closing the Hospital’s Transitional Care Unit   patients will be directed to the 4  local skilled nursing facilities which are Crystal Ridge, Golden Empire, Wolf Creek Care Center, and  Spring Hill Manner.

Closing the Transitional Care Unit  means 24 hospital employees will be receiving lay-off notices  which represents 21 full time equivalent jobs. Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is part of the Dignity Heath System  and at 800 full time employees is the largest employer in the county.
