Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital will be closing its 17 bed Transitional Care Unit effective February 1, 2013. VP of Business Development and Marketing for Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, Debbie Plass says changes in Medicare will no longer cover the cost of providing that care in an acute care hospital facility.
Plass says in closing the Hospital’s Transitional Care Unit patients will be directed to the 4 local skilled nursing facilities which are Crystal Ridge, Golden Empire, Wolf Creek Care Center, and Spring Hill Manner.
Closing the Transitional Care Unit means 24 hospital employees will be receiving lay-off notices which represents 21 full time equivalent jobs. Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is part of the Dignity Heath System and at 800 full time employees is the largest employer in the county.
