It was May of 1979 that I put my home town, Fort Wayne Indiana, in my rear view mirror. Since I left I’ve been back 2 times. Once in 1981 when my big brother got remarried, and once in 2010 about year before he lost his battle with throat cancer. So, it’s easy to see I didn’t really miss too terribly much about my Hoosier roots.
Every now and then I see “The Fort” pop up in a news story. I once read a book written by a former inmate of the Indiana Correctional System, he was also from Fort Wayne. But just today, the people that I grew up around popped up again. I grew up with a lot of strange kids, we all did I suppose. I remember talk of “The Government” putting something in the drinking water supply as an experiment. I think it was fluoride, I do have really strong teeth. But then when I read this story I paused to think it may have been something else.
Aaron Stephanski (I don’t remember ever meeting anyone with that name in my youth) was arrested and charged with 4 counts of child neglect and another charge of DUI. Seems Aaron thought it would be a good idea to strap his 4 kids, aged 4 to 7, to the hood of his car and go on a three block joy ride! He plead guilty.
Fort Wayne, glad to see you back in the news . . . . . . . .
