Opposition to building three Dollar General stores in Nevada County remains vocal. The County Planning Commission took comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Report at its most recent meeting. Concerns included traffic congestion, drainage issues, too much light in a rural area, and incompatibility with the neighborhood. But one local merchant in Alta Sierra says he’d welcome the store. Michael Brady says it would help the retail center where his business, The Healing Garden, is located…

Brady says he’s also tired of hearing people equate the Dollar General store with the Dollar Tree store…

Meanwhile, county planning staff says there would be significant environmental impacts at two of the three sites. That includes a lot of trees needing to be removed at the Alta Sierra site, which is currently not developed. They also say the Rough and Ready site would conflict with residential area. Those issues were not mentioned with the Penn Valley site. After the public comment period ends, the information will be processed for at least another month or two before a Final EIR is issued. The Commission may make a decision in the spring, which could also be appealed to the Board of Supervisors.

I am in total disagreement with the construction of these new Dollar General Stores...to remove healthy trees and natural landscape or create traffic logistical issues does not enhance our community in any positive way......

Please add my name to the growing number of local residents that disapprove the building of these new Dollar General Stores...to develop natural land, removal of healthy trees and create traffic logistical negative results is most definitely not in the interest of our community.....there is nothing these stores offer that we do not already have in our fine community. Thank you for your consideration.

Penn Valley does Not need/want a Dollar General. We are a close-knit,small-business supportive, health and environmentally-conscious community. Dollar General doesn't belong in South Nevada County.
