Josiah Royce lived from 1855 to 1916. His history was one of the first to dispel the myth of the romantic pioneer and to bring to light the role of women and various minorities in forging the state of California. Kegley will discuss Royce’s historical work as social history as well as a commentary on moral and social problems.
