Shutting down the gold mines during World War Two is the topic for this month’s Nevada County Historical Society’s ‘Speaker Night’. Gage McKinney is a local author living in the Bay Area now, but whose family dates back five generations locally. McKinney will talk about Federal Order L-208 which ordered the closure of the mines, and how it affected two people in particular…
McKinney says even to this day, there is some animosity about the order, because gold mining was the only industry that was federally shuit down during the war…
The presentation is free tonight (Thursday) at 7pm at the Madelyn Helling Library. Light refreshments will be served.
