Speed Limit Going Up on County Road

It’s not very often that you hear of a speed limit * increase* on a road, and even stranger that you hear they are doing it for safety reasons. The back portion of Squirrel Creek Road outside of Grass Valley will have it’s speed limit raised from 25 to 35 miles an hour…

Nevada County Principal Civil Engineer Joshua Pack says the front portion near Scotten and Lyman Gilmore schools will remain unchanged, but the portion of the road away from the schools has very low volume. Pack says they do surveys to determine speed limits, and 35 is appropriate for that stretch of roadway…

Pack says such an increase can lead to less aggressive driving and improve safety. The Board of Supervisors approved the change at its meeting earlier this week. Pack says the change will go into effect in about a month.
