Spirit Peer Empowerment Center Celebrates 10 Years

The Spirit Peer Empowerment Center got started 10 years ago initially within the county behavioral health department but now is a successful community partner helping thousands of people a year deal with mental health issues.. Executive Director Barbara Lindsey Burns says services are open to everyone and there are no barriers to getting help.

Thirteen trained counselors run classes and private sessions at their building on Gates Place in Grass Valley. Spirit Peer Empowerment Center also has counselors that work inside the hospital with patients who are brought in through the Emergency Room.

The spirit peer empowerment center is receiving about 8-thousand people visits a year and has several programs available from crisis stabilization to continuing support. For information you can call the Spirit Peer Empowerment Center at 274-1431 The Center is also holding they annual fundraiser Summer Solstice Party and Flea Market fundraiser this Saturday (June 21st) from 4 to 7 p.m. and hope the community will stop by 276 Gates Place to support them. There is a suggested $5 donation but no one will be turned away.
