Spot Fires Cause A Scare For Some Homeowners

Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a series of spot fires along Highway 20 near the Brighton Street overcrossing Monday afternoon. The Nevada County Consolidated Fire District says the fires were impacting trees and threatening areas off Primrose Lane, where 24 homes had brief, precautionary evacuations. Firefighters were able to contain the spot fires quickly, with no damage or extension into the adjacent homes. The District says there was a well-coordinated attack, along with the assistance of a cinderblock wall that protected many of the homes. The spot fires total about half-an-acre. The cause is still being investigated. Highway 20 was also closed until there was containment.
