Supporters of breaking off some rural northern California counties and forming their own ‘State of Jefferson’ had a chance to make their case before the Nevada County Board of Supervisors yesterday . Eight different counties so far have voted to support the movement. Supervisors yesterday listened to three keynote speakers as well as several individuals during public comment. Michael Warnken of Santa Barbara, a self proclaimed Constitutional Scholar said lack of representation is one of the drivers for creating a new state.

Another Complaint raised by Warnken is that state employees now have the numbers to run the state.

Warnken also raised the question why does California need 560 separate government agencies. Also in the crowd of over 200 attendees were several members of the newly formed “Keep It California” Political Action Committee. While Keep It California members told the Supervisors they also want better representation for rural counties in Sacramento, Nevada County Chapter “Keep It California” Chair, Margaret Joehnck says they do not think separating from the rest of the state is the way to do it.
