The old math and science fairs put on the the Nevada County Office of Education in recent years have been greatly re-vamped and expanded. And you can can see the results this weekend. Associate Superintendent Shar Johns says it’s the first annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math Expo, or STEAM Expo, at the Fairgrounds. She says 150 to 200 K-12 students are participating in a number of projects and competitions…
Johns says there are science and technology-based projects in seven different categories, plus a number of hands-on activities…
Although the Expo begins today (Fri.)…it’s not open to the public until Saturday, from 9am to 3pm. Johns says the Office wanted to host a larger event that was connected to the state’s Common Core standards and better tied to some of the critical thinking and collaboration skills that students need, to be successful in college, as well as finding a job.
