Earlier this week I walked into the station’s kitchen station to put my lunch in the fridge, lo and behold the Muffin Fairy had paid a visit. So had the Apple Fairy.
Someone had brought in a bag of really good looking apples. They were firm, with good color and a nice scent. Someone else (I assume it was a different person anyway) had made some good looking muffins. Actually there were a couple of different kinds of muffins, one looked store bought the other home made.
There is a stereotype we all laugh at regarding law enforcement people and donuts. Let me tell you something, cops got nuttin’ on radio people when it comes to deep fried or baked bread goods. Sometimes people will bring in a couple of dozen donuts for the morning show crews here at the KNCO. Those donuts, or rather the survivors of those donuts, are then shared with the rest of the staff. After all, 4 people would be hard pressed to polish off 24 donuts in 3 hours – but a good effort is usually made!
A while back I decided that I would forgo these delightful treats because my belt was running out of holes. Who knew leather could shrink in length like that? I always have a piece of fresh fruit in my lunch bag. If there are donuts, I grab that fruit feel superior to those that are relishing those sweet, tasty, dipped, stuffed, sprinkled donuts. I also feel like I am missing out.
So here it is the end of the week. The muffins – long gone. Even the crumbs of the crumbs have been wiped up and the counters cleaned. The bag of apples you ask?
I’m thinking of turning them into fritters . . . . . . . .
