A fire reported burning in vegetation late Monday night turned out to be a car fully engulfed in flames. Calls came into dispatch just after midnight Tuesday. Grass Valley Police Lt Alex Gammelgard says multiple agencies responded to the fire which was about 400 feet off of the paved roadway on a dirt road near the Hansen Brothers property on La Barr Meadows Road.

Since the incident was outside city limits Nevada County Sheriff deputies took over the investigation. However, about an hour later, GVPD was contacted a second time.

Grass Valley police contacted the registered owner of the vehicle confirming it was stolen.

Grass Valley PD are continuing to investigate the stolen vehicle, however, the sheriff’s office is looking at an additional crime.

Gammelgard says that in addition to the vehicle being stolen, a set of golf clubs had been removed from the vehicle prior to setting it on fire.
