Strong Wins Gold in Sochi

He did it. Evan Strong has won Gold at the Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia. The 27 year-old Nevada City resident edged fellow American Michael Shea by just over half-a-second in Snowboard Cross. Strong was in second place after the first run of three, but put down the fastest time of the entire competition in run number two, and led Shea by one one-hundredth of a second. Strong, who has a prosthetic leg after a motorcycle accident ten years ago, wins the first-ever Snowboard Cross at the Paralympics. The United States swept the event with Shea winning silver, and Keith Gabel taking the bronze.
