Sierra College students from the Nevada County campus could soon be issuing parking tickets in downtown Grass Valley. Police Chief John Foster says his department is trying to implement an internship program, and parking enforcement would be one of the key components.
But the students would provide parking enforcement in the downtown area, and also do some night patrols in Grass Valley and Nevada City, and provide safety escorts. Foster says the Police Department is working with the college to find as many as ten qualified applicants.
Currently, there’s only one volunteer doing parking enforcement downtown, and only one day a week. Foster hopes to be screening student applications when school starts, and have the program in place by the end of next month.
