Students Attend Law Day at Nevada County Superior Court

Close to 700 5th graders from Nevada County schools are at the Nevada County Courthouse in Nevada City for Law Day today. Once a year officers of the court clear their calendars as much as possible so they can make the courtrooms available for students to study the functions of the court and put on a mock trial.

Court Executive Officer Sean Metroka says this year the trial has to do with a student allegedly being observed stealing another student’s new bicycle.

After the trial students will meet with various law enforcement officers. Students will also get to tour the courthouse jail, which Metroka says can conjure up some unpleasant images.
