Supervisors to Hear Blue Lead Mine Appeal

An appeal to the reopening of the Blue Lead Mine is on the agenda for the Nevada County Board of Supervisors meeting tomorrow. The hearing is set for 1:30p.m.  The Mine, located seven miles east of Nevada City on Red Dog Road, has been recommended for approval by the Planning commission. the Application by Blue Lead Gold Mine  requests a use permit to extract placer gold deposits from the 74 acre site proposed in five phases over a 20 year span.  There is also a reclamation plan to reclaim the site from the proposed and historic mining activities.  The Appeal was presented by Randy Fuller and nine of his neighbors who claim the mining activity will destroy their properties.*

The appeal asks supervisors to address depletion of the water table with negative effects on existing wells and springs, lack of Planning department notice to   potentially affected property owners,  and failure to address the negative effects of long distance and constant noise from the project. Re-opening of the Blue Lead Mine was unanimously approved by the Nevada County Planning Commission. at their February 13th meeting.
