Suspect Arrested After Welfare Check

A Nevada County Sheriff Deputy that was just trying to do a good deed ended up having to arrest the man he was trying to help. Sheriff Keith Royal says a deputy spotted a man in dark clothing walking in the area of Twin Cities Church on Ridge Road early Sunday morning. The deputy made a welfare check on the man and asked if he needed assistance.

Deputies are required to check anyone that is going to be put in a patrol car for weapons or contraband. Tristan Appleton agreed to the search.

Appleton was taken into custody and was given a ride- not to a home- but to the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility and booked on drug related charges.
