Suspect Charged in Sierra County Shooting

The man charged with trying to run down a Sierra County Deputy Sheriff is in jail. Sheriff John Evans says in a press release that 33 year Adam Malik of San Diego was taken into custody when he was released from the hospital. Malik received several gun shot wounds when he tried to run over the Deputy just north of Downieville just over a week ago. Malik had been involved in an altercation in a bar in North San Juan where he allegedly brandished a handgun. When the Sierra County Deputy stopped Malik, he put his car in reverse smashing into the Deputies patrol car. The Deputy shot the suspect several times. Malik will be in custody in the medical unit of the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility, because of his medical condition. He is facing charges of attempted murder of a peace officer. His bail is set at one half a million dollars.
