It was NOT a Grass Valley Police officer’s bullet that killed a suspect back in May. Nevada County District Attorney Cliff Newell has concluded his investigation of the incident on Highway 174 at the Bear River, which started with a drug deal gone bad, led to a high-speed chase, and then ultimately resulted in a gunfight, and the death of Rod Dankers…
Newell says before the shooting, Dankers had shot at his drug partner, and chased him into Grass Valley, and that’s when the police department got involved. Newell says there was a criminal investigation followed by an independent inquiry, but now as far as he is concerned, the matter is now closed…
Dankers was found with two weapons–a gun in his hand, and another near his body. The officers have been on paid administrative leave since the shooting.
